Trawlers, Tastes and Tradition: The Curated Plate Debuts Mooloolaba’s Seafood Series

24 March 2025: A series of seafood events have been announced as part of The Curated Plate, Queensland’s premium food and drink festival to satisfy the taste of seafood lovers and support Mooloolaba’s multi-million dollar seafood industry. Festival Culinary Director and renowned Chef Peter Kuruvita revealed the Seafood Series will kick off this year’s program which runs from 25 July to 3 August.

With early release tickets going on sale in early April, foodies will be able to book an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Mooloolaba trawlers with Kuruvita. In addition to meeting passionate local fishers and suppliers behind the region’s premium seafood, Kuruvita’s guests will learn about sustainable practices of the Sunshine Coast’s seafood industry and gain firsthand insight into the origin of their seafood and what’s caught fresh and local.

The series will also include a First Nations themed seafood experience by Saltwater Eco Tours onboard their heritage vessel. The event will bring seafood and Indigenous culture together and attendees will explore the waterways around Mooloolaba.

Mooloolaba Seafood restaurant Fish on Parkyn’s ‘Grape vs Grain’ lunch is returning on July 25, where diners will vote between expertly paired wines and craft beers from Brockenchack Wines and 10 Toes Brewing – all complemented by the freshest local seafood and premium beef.

The Seafood Series will also include Mr Kuruvtia working with local seafood restaurants to highlight wild caught Mooloolaba prawns, Fraser Isle spanner crabs, tuna, barramundi and more.

“Mooloolaba is a hub for the Sunshine Coast seafood industry and it’s there you’ll find the freshest seafood including locally caught prawns, tuna, barramundi, spanner crab and more. The trawlers, restaurants and seafood industry in Mooloolaba are so incredibly passionate about providing fresh, sustainable seafood to food lovers and The Curated Plate is the perfect opportunity to share their love of seafood. I’m personally looking forward to having more seafood on the menu for this year’s festival,” said Kuruvita.

Silver Sea Seafoods Managing Director Jacky Cartwright said they were excited to be part of The Curated Plate event and looked forward to promoting the Mooloolaba wild-caught seafood industry.

It’s a great opportunity to share the journey of the Eastern King Prawn from ocean to plate and highlight the vital role fishers play in bringing quality seafood to the table,” Ms Cartwright said.

More information on the seafood series of events will be revealed when tickets go on sale in early April, with those subscribed to The Curated Plate newsletter receiving exclusive early access.

Given the high demand for these one-of-a-kind seafood experiences, Mr Kuruvita urges food lovers to sign up for updates and secure tickets quickly before they sell out.

Ends.
