Sunshine Coast Hinterland IGA set to expand to meet growing demand

7 May 2024: As the Sunshine Coast continues to attract migration from all over Australia, the Hinterland town of Mooloolah has seen a surge of new residents, and the local IGA is set to undergo a makeover to cater for the increased demand.

Twelve months on from opening their sixth beautifully appointed IGA, Roz and Michael White are now focussing on one of their earlier stores that will breathe new life into it, which is reflective of the vibrant hinterland community it serves.

With plans to increase the floor area to a total of 1522m2 (and addition of 611m2) and space for an additional 70 cars, Co-Founder of White’s IGA, Roz White said she was looking forward to increasing their product offering to support the needs of the wider community and the surrounding catchment areas.

“We are delighted that this renovation to our beautiful Mooloolah store will allow us to expand the range of products we can offer to the Mooloolah community.

“It is important to both Michael and I, that we can provide greater choice and a variety of shopping options in an upgraded and modernised store.

“As always, we will have a key focus on our locavore suppliers and broaden our range of everyday goods at great prices. This enhanced offering will be of benefit to the whole community,” Roz said.

Working alongside Developer Primo Property, the White’s Group will undertake a full interior and exterior refurbishment of the building and will work together to ensure the hinterland character of Mooloolah is preserved.

Development Manager for Primo Property, Christopher Ferraro said his company was delighted to be working on this project with the White’s Group to support the growing needs of the community.

“This store is essential to the local community and, of course, our community is important to us, which is why we are committed to ensuring that we deliver something together that will further enhance the vibrancy of the community,” Christopher said.

“While the construction phase of the project will be a significant driver of local employment, the long-term operation of this store ensures there will be jobs for locals into the future and that is important.

“At the heart of this town is the community, so doing what we can to keep everything local is a key driver for us. We will work hard to ensure all trades working on the project are from the Sunshine Coast region and this includes everything from block layers, concreters, roofers, air conditioning services, steel fabrication to plumbers. It really is a local project, for the local people, by the local people, and that makes us incredibly proud,” Chris said.

The project has already commenced and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Fast Facts:

  • increase in floor area from 911m2 to 1522m2
  • full interior and exterior refurbishment of the building
  • 70 additional car spaces
