11 September 2024: Wednesday 11 September: The Moreton Bay region is set to soar to new heights as it prepares to welcome a record number of visitors to the annual Vietjet Redcliffe KiteFest this weekend. With kite enthusiasts travelling from as far as Asia and New Zealand, the festival, now in its milestone year, promises to be a vibrant spectacle of colour and fun.
Taking place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September, the Vietjet Redcliffe KiteFest drew approximately 30,000 visitors last year, and expectations are even higher this time, with ticket sales strong.
Kite flyers will entertain the crowds with colourful displays as they also take part in family friendly activities and food stalls. Among the highlights is a special performance by ARIA Award Winner Emma Watkins, beloved by families across the nation as Emma Memma.
“For three decades, visitors from near and far have visited Redcliffe for the event. Just up the road from the Sunshine State’s Capital, 20 minutes north of Brisbane Airport, the Moreton Bay region is Brisbane’s playground,” said Natassia Wheeler, CEO of Visit Moreton Bay.
“Our events calendar is just one reason to visit and we encourage travellers to explore our expansive region from the hinterland town of Woodford to the clear waters of Bribie Island and everything in between. Our door is open, some come and explore,” added Wheeler.
The KiteFest comes on the heels of the recently sold-out Moreton Bay Food and Wine Festival, held at the end of August, further cementing the region’s reputation as a burgeoning destination for both locals and tourists. The success of these events underscores Moreton Bay’s growing popularity, with its vibrant events calendar and stunning natural beauty offering something for everyone.
Tickets for the event are available to purchase at www.redcliffekitefest.com.au with limited gate sales available on the weekend.
