Oceanview Helicopters set to relocate to Sunshine Coast Airport

19 June 2024: Oceanview Helicopters will soon call the Sunshine Coast Airport home with construction of the Sunshine Coast Aerospace Precinct expansion commencing today.

The $7 million site preparations, which include earthworks, roadwork, and other infrastructure, set the stage for the precinct’s expansion.

This move will enable Oceanview Helicopters to grow its tourism business, taking advantage of the improved facilities and increased space at the airport.

Oceanview Helicopters Co-Founder and Chief Pilot, Karl Mayne said, “We are delighted that the Sunshine Coast Airport will become our new base.  This move will allow us to continue to expand our services and grow our fleet.

“Being located at the Sunshine Coast Airport means we are centrally located and it also makes it easier for our clients who require transfers to and from the airport.

The new area will also accommodate the construction of an $18.6 million, Queensland-Government funded, 3-bay hangar for LifeFlight Australia, Queensland’s largest community helicopter rescue service. This larger hangar will house two LifeFlight helicopters and a jet.

State Development Minister Grace Grace broke ground on the initial earthworks today, with LifeFlight expecting to operate from its new hangar by June next year.

“We’re thrilled to be able to build on the work we’re doing in Queensland regions like the Sunshine Coast,” Minister Grace said.

“Through this Aerospace Precinct expansion, we’re not only inviting the growth of the tourism industry and creating more good jobs for the community – we’re also ensuring the growth of crucial services as well as local businesses.”

The Aerospace Precinct expansion is poised to boost local tourism and enhance the capabilities of essential services like LifeFlight Australia.
